Cooking It! offers fun, hands-on after school cooking classes for children in Bristol.

After School Cooking Classes Bristol

This cooking classes are for 6 to 9 year old’s. Children will discover the enjoyment of cooking. Also, they gain an understanding about healthy food and nutrition, and not so healthy food. In addition, plenty of sweet treats are on offer.

Furthermore, they will learn to cook with seasonal ingredients. While learning to create nutritious and delicious meals in a safe manner. We will provide them with kitchen guidelines (eg. disposal of waste, handling knives, separate boards for preparing raw meat, etc.).

Children each prepare their own recipes although sometimes they will work in pairs. We call it teamwork.

The after school club runs half-termly in conjunction with school’s term times. The 6 to 9 year olds group is on Thursdays from 3.45 pm to 5.30 pm, it runs for 6 weeks. These must be booked and paid in advance as a block. There is a maximum of 6 children per group and a minimum of 3 children. The cost is £120 for 6 weeks.

Along with the skills which they acquired whilst they are little, they are now able to learn trickier techniques and use more complex equipment. At this stage, they start using knives designed for young cooks or using a small adult one. Finally, there are still other more complex skills they learn whilst at the after school cooking classes bristol but above all they will have fun.

Activities that they try

Cutting using a small knife, scissors and grating.

  • children should learn how to form their hand into a claw to keep fingertips out of danger.
  • we have small scissors or children’s scissors, we use them to snip herbs.
  • fingers can easily be grated so we keep watch and make sure they don’t get too close to the end of whatever they’re grating.

Measuring and rubbing in

  • even the very youngest children can do this but as children learn to read and do basic maths, this is a great opportunity for them to do this with less supervision.
  • rubbing in flour and butter with fingertips is called for in many recipes.

Beating and folding

  • Show children how to beat cake mixture with a wooden spoon or fold in egg whites without knocking out too much air.
  • Greasing and lining a cake tin or tray
  • Peel oranges or hard-boiled eggs – make sure eggs aren’t too hot, they learn to run them under the cold tap first and be careful of residual heat.
